RE: RATES AND/OR FORMS UPDATE - South Dakota Rate Filing Approval - Effective October 2, 2023

Dear Associates:

Effective October 2, 2023, an updated rate manual has been approved for use by the South Dakota Department of Insurance. Attached is the new manual as well as a red lined version that shows the changes made.

The rate changes are as follows: 

  1. “Zoned” rates have been created for all counties except Minnehaha, Lincoln, and Yankton.
  2. The “all other county rates” zone will use the new $100.00 minimum charge, up $50.00 from the previous minimum.
  3. In Section 5(c) Simultaneous Issue, the charge will increase from $25.00 to $50.00 for the “all other county rates” zone instead of increasing to $75.00. Only Minnehaha, Lincoln and Yankton counties will charge $75.00.
  4. Language has been added to clarify the minimum Reissue Rate of $100.00.
  5. Similarly, language has been added to clarify the minimum for the Expanded Loan Rate ($110.00).
  6. A section has been added for the ALTA Limited Pre-Foreclosure Policy. The charge shall be the same as for a Loan Policy based on the stated amount of the mortgage.
  7. The language describing the CLTA 104.6/104.7 charge has been revised in order to clarify the difference between residential and commercial pricing. This is only a change in the language not the rate.
