Search the Database

Before closing a transaction, all issuing offices must search the names of the parties to the transaction, including the seller, buyer/borrower, payoff lender and new lender, using the Special Alerts database.  Go to the Special Alerts database to search for specific names, entities and properties.

RE: SPECIAL ALERT - Kern County Defaulted Taxes - Tax Sales

Dear Associates:

This Bulletin advises you that Kern County has a significant number of defaulted tax properties where the tax sale has occurred (in March) but the tax deed has not yet been recorded.

In addition, the Kern County Tax Collector’s website may not show the most current information. It may indicate that the taxes are in default, and state a redemption amount, but it may not disclose that the property has already been sold at a tax sale.

The Kern County Tax Collector advises that there are at least 800 properties where the tax sale documents are not yet recorded.

If you encounter a property in Kern County showing the taxes in default, please contact the Kern County Tax Collector directly to ascertain the exact status of the property.
