RE: UNDERWRITING - Hurricane Harvey and Recording Offices

Dear Associates:

We have performed a quick survey of recording offices in the Houston metropolitan area.

With a few exceptions, noted below, the following County offices report that, as of today, all of their customary recording locations are open during their normal hours, and are accepting real property documents for filing under normal conditions, including in person and electronic recording (where previously available), with minimal or no backlog.

Brazoria – scheduled to open Thursday, 09/07/17

Chambers - Open

Fort Bend - Open

Galveston - Open

Harris – All open except Clay Road and Cypresswood Branches

Jefferson – scheduled limited opening 8:00 AM – Noon; Weds., 09/06/17 – Fri., 09/08/17

Liberty – scheduled to open Thursday, 09/07/17

Matagorda - Open

Montgomery - Open

Waller - Open

Wharton - Open

The above list is not exclusive.  Many counties in Texas have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.  Before closing a transaction, please check with your County Clerk to confirm that the recording office is open and accepting real property filings in the normal manner and hours.

If there is a recording office closure, delayed filing ability or backlog, and customers nevertheless wish to close, please obtain a Gap Affidavit and Indemnity (which may already be included in your closing affidavit, where customary).
