RE: Requirements of R.S. 22:513.1

Dear Associates:

This bulletin serves as a reminder to all Issuing Offices that effective January 1, 2012, when title insurance is being issued to either a purchaser or a mortgagee, regarding one-to-four family residential transactions, the conveyance document and mortgage must contain the information required by R.S. 22:513.1.

The required information is: (1) the name, address and Louisiana license number of the issuing title insurance producer, (2) the name of the title insurance underwriter, and (3) the name and bar roll number of the attorney licensed to practice law in Louisiana who provided the opinion upon which the title policy(ies) were based.

This information may be typed or stamped onto the document or included on a separate addendum to the document.  The statute holds the title insurance producer responsible for verifying that the required information is included prior to the recordation of the document.

You should read R.S. 22:513.1 in its entirety. Click here to view a copy of R.S. 22.513.1.
