Dear Associates:
Under existing law, when a document is presented to the Register of Deeds for recording, it is accompanied with a recording fee of $11 for the first page and $2 for each additional page. This fee will change under Senate Bill 507 that was signed into law on Friday, May 15th. This law, to be published on May 26, 2010 as 2009 Wis. Act 314, will become effective on the 30th day following publication.
Beginning on FRIDAY, JUNE 25, 2010, the recording fee will be a flat fee per document. For a while, the fee will vary from county to county. The statutory recording fee is $25 per document. However, counties that are in the process of redacting social security numbers from older documents may elect to charge an additional five dollars, or $30 per document, until that process is complete, but no later than January 1, 2015.
The Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association anticipates posting a list of the recording fees by county shortly. Their website address is: http://www.wrdaonline.org. According to the Association, ALL counties will be charging the $30/document fee beginning June 25, 2010.
