RE: Uniform Acknowledgment

Dear Associates:

The September 1, 1999 start date for the use of the new uniform acknowledgments is upon us. As such, it is advisable for all to review Paul Prinzivalli's May 3, 1999 Underwriting Bulletin (No. 170) on the subject. If you do not have a copy of Bulletin No. 170, please call Stewart Title® Insurance Company's ("Stewart Title®") Legal Department and request that one be faxed to you, or follow the link in the references section at the end of this bulletin.

Forms incorporating the new acknowledgments are now (or will soon be) available for you to order through Stewart Title®. A legal forms requisition sheet is available through the New York District Office for your use in ordering the updated forms. Inasmuch as delivery time cannot be assured prior to September 1st, it is strongly suggested that each office provide its closers with sheets containing the new acknowledgment forms to be used as attachments to documents acknowledged on or after September 1, 1999, as necessary.

Speaking of awareness of the pending change, if you have not done so already, please add a note to each report or certificate issued, advising all parties to each transaction of the use of the new acknowledgment forms.

THIS BULLETIN IS FURNISHED TO INFORM YOU OF CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS. AS A REMINDER, YOU ARE CHARGED WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENT ON VIRTUAL UNDERWRITER  AS IT EXISTS FROM TIME TO TIME AS IT APPLIES TO YOU, AS WELL AS ANY OTHER INSTRUCTIONS. OUR UNDERWRITING AGREEMENTS DO NOT AUTHORIZE OUR ISSUING AGENTS TO ENGAGE IN SETTLEMENTS OR CLOSINGS ON BEHALF OF STEWART TITLE GUARANTY COMPANY. THIS BULLETIN IS NOT INTENDED TO DIRECT YOUR ESCROW OR SETTLEMENT PRACTICES OR TO CHANGE PROVISIONS OF APPLICABLE UNDERWRITING AGREEMENTS. CONFIDENTIAL, PROPRIETARY, OR NONPUBLIC PERSONAL INFORMATION SHOULD NEVER BE SHARED OR DISSEMINATED EXCEPT AS ALLOWED BY LAW. IF APPLICABLE STATE LAW OR REGULATION IMPOSES ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS, YOU SHOULD CONTINUE TO COMPLY WITH THOSE REQUIREMENTS.
